What is the Orbera Managed Weight Loss System?

The Orbera weight loss system is a safe, effective strategy to lose weight. This is not for patients who have a few pesky pounds to shed or can’t quite get rid of those last 10 pounds. This is a proven method to help those whose BMI is between 30 and 40. Orbera has successfully helped people shed pounds across Australia, Europe, Asia and South America - and is now FDA approved for use in the U.S..

How does the Orbera system work?

A balloon is placed in the stomach via a type of endoscope. It is then filled with saline until it is about the size of a grapefruit. The balloon is left in the stomach for 6 months. During that time the patient feels full while eating less! It is really that simple; but it doesn’t stop there. The patient receives 12 months of nutritional counseling from a Registered Dietitian. This counseling helps the patient relearn good eating habits. Patients using Orbera lost an average of 3.1 times more weight than diet and exercise alone. And what is better than losing the weight? Keeping it off. Orbera patients are proven to keep off the weight, even after the balloon is removed.
