How does the HemWell procedure work?
While you are under sedation, the physician determines the number, severity, and treatment plan for the hemorrhoids. Without tissue penetration, a probe delivers a low-level direct current to the base of the hemorrhoid. This causes a chemical reaction in the hemorrhoid, triggering ligation within the vascular feeding vessels. The HemWell process essentially allows the body to heal itself. The hemorrhoid begins to shrink immediately and most patients feel no pain and are able to resume normal activity after the procedure.
What causes hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are common in both men and women. According to the National Institute of Health, half of all adults between 50 and 70 suffer from hemorrhoids. They can be caused by things such as:
- Pregnancy
- Heavy lifting
- Obesity
- Poor diet
- Straining evacuating stool
- Childbirth
- Prolonged sitting
- Heredity
- Constipation
What's at stake if not treated?
Left untreated, the damaged blood vessels of the hemorrhoid will only get worse. This can lead to further pain, painful swelling, itching, bleeding, burning, protrusion, and skin irritation.
