Studies are being done, in the US and Spain, that look into the effectiveness of "at-home" fecal tests for colon cancer. Kits are being mailed to participants and initially, the results are promising.
Since most at-home tests require no dietary changes or preps, more people are using the kits. And the preliminary results show that the tests are about 75% effective in detecting blood in the stool, which can be an indicator of the presence of colon cancer.
The final results of the study won't be available for several years. In the mean time, colonoscopies still remain the test of choice. Detected early, colon cancer is 90% curable. Have you been screened?
