If you have turned on the news lately you have heard about Cologuard, the at home, noninvasive test for colon cancer. It is being touted as the next best thing in colon cancer detection. As with most news items, there is a grain of truth being stretched to the breaking point.
The reason colon cancer deaths are declining in the US is the increased attention that screening colonoscopies have received - more and more people are being screened, small precancerous polyps are discovered and removed before than can become malignant. Cologuard misses 60% of those polyps - 60%!
